Ambat Sivara Menon ( A.S.R Menon)was
born in the year 1923 who is a graduate who excelled in sports in
his student days.He has represented his school and college in state
and national level meets. He was chosen as the best scout of his
school in 1940 and champion athelete of his college in 1944. He has
won many prizes in tennis, chess, carrioms and other
tournements.
A.S.R Menon started his carrier with The Reserve Bank of India
at Madras and working with two other banks for about 15 years in
various places including Cochin, Palakkad, Coimbatore, Manglore,
Cannanore and Coonoor. He was selected to the superior revenue cadre
of The Government of India in 1959 and posted as the Chief Cashier
of South Eastern Railways at Calcutta. In 1976, he was promoted and
posted to Eastern Railways where he continued until his retirement
in 1980.
Menon is
closely associated with many sports, cultural and social
institutionsat the centres where he worked. At Cannanore, he was the
secretery of the Savoy club and executive member of the public
library. He was treasurer of the Athletics Association of South
Eastern Railwaysand Eastern Railways, Secretery of B.N.R Officers
Welfare Fund and Executtive Member of the B.N.R Officers Club and
The Bengal Lawn Tennis Association
A.S.R Menon authored the
award winning book " Ambat Tharavad and Allied Families" which
cronicles the evolution of The Ambat Tharavad and family over the
past 500 years. Due to his pains taking efforts, he could document
the roots and details of about 1500 Ambat members, present and past
who are living in different parts of the world and oit has paved way
for the extablishment of theAmbat Website. We owe our gratitite to this iconic man for
taking pains to chronicle the history of the Chittur Ambat family
and its history of over 500 years.
